Title:
Women in the fishing sector
Description:
In Senegal, there is a village known for being the largest artisanal fishing landing port in the country: Joal-Fadiouth. Every day, hundreds of pirogues arrive from all along the coast, bringing in tons of fish. Fatou Diouf is a 28-year-old fish vendor whose workday has no set schedule: she leaves home when the pirogues arrive and returns only when she has finished selling. She makes sure to set some fish aside for her family—it is she who ensures the supply of the only source of protein in the coastal Senegalese diet: fish.
