Title:
130 - Boats of Fresh Catch and Art
Description:
Fisherfolks and people of Halian Island community painted boats expressing what it means to uplift the human spirit through humanitarian and collective artmaking. After the construction of new fishing boats which replaced boats destroyed by a super typhoon, we designed fishing boats to remind us of our shared livelihood and humanity. While our humanitarian efforts like providing the basic needs of food, shelter, health, education, etc., we need the role of art and creativity as well as an essential ingredient in rebuilding a more just and more humane society. Because as our basic needs nourish our bodies, our creativity nourishes our souls. We need to encounter art every day just as much as how we encounter our daily needs and our fellow people. When we create art with people, we also continue to be reminded of who we really are as people, humans capable of sharing and creating our ideal world.
